Hello and Welcome!
Hello, my name is Mapela Motshabi Custodio, I was born and raised in South Africa and currently live in Louisiana, USA. I wear many hats, the most proud one being a mother of two; I am a military spouse and a General Manager at Casa de Custodio.
I obtained my Masters degree in Health Education in Spring, 2012, and got certified as a Health Education Specialist later that year. I am also a Zumba Instructor and a Certified Personal Trainer. I am very passionate about health and fitness, clean eating “not dieting”, self-care and maintaining a balance in my daily life whilst making the most of everyday that I walk on this earth. I am a firm believer that one should never set any limits for themselves and that one should never fail to try, and that if you fall, what matters the most is how you get back up!
Staying positive every day and never losing site of your goals, whether it be your career goals, academic goals, fitness goals or any other goals while balancing all the other aspects of your life in your home and in your social life is not an easy task. This is what motivated me to start this blog. During the past 3 years, I experienced a huge transformation in my life, life, as I knew it, was no more!!! I had my first and my second baby with no family close by to help in the process, I was a graduate student while working a full time job, and adding being a Marine Corps spouse to all that mix, means that my husband was not present during most of the time to assist me, I am sure most of the military spouses out there relate :). Shortly after my son’s birth, my family also experienced an overseas Permanent Change of Station move (PCS), in familiar terms; we received orders to move to Okinawa, Japan. I know that it sounds like the most amazing opportunity but it was one of the most difficult things I had to do in my life, we will get into details on that later in the blog. Through these experiences, I learned what it takes to survive and what it takes to stay focused. I learned strategies to make it all work while focusing on my self-care. I figured out what it takes to be courageous and motivated to make sure that I live my best life no matter what challenges I face.
It is these experiences that inspired me to write a blog, to share with you my perspective on finding the motivation to get it all back, whether after baby, a marriage or any major change in life. Also finding the motivation to achieve your life goals, whether in your career, studies, health and fitness and most importantly doing so while focusing on having fun and on your self-care. It is my goal to provide a place for you to find your inner strength and the prowess to take steps towards living your best life ever while juggling life’s daily demands and challenges.
